The Letter
Carrie has found herself sitting in front of the fireplace with a letter from her husband; her husband that died six months ago. Upon reading the letter, Carrie learns that Phillip has two children she never knew about and received instructions to call their Uncle Ron for more information. Feeling as if making that call is something Phillip desperately wants her to do, she contacts Ron. By agreeing to meet with him, Carrie turns her life inside out with a tidal wave of mixed emotions and realizes her life is about to change dramatically. Will she regret calling Ron?
Ron’s sister, Maggie, has died and he is left to raise her twins. Fulfilling a promise to their father, Phillip, he mails a letter to Phillip’s wife, Carrie, six months after his death. Receiving her call, he agrees to meet her. Unfortunately for Ron, he is about to throw his life into complete shambles and does not know it. Ron soon realizes that Carrie knows nothing of Maggie, Phillip, him, or the twins. He is left with the task of explaining everything to her and devastated to be the one breaking her heart. He wonders why he mailed that letter.
Donna McGillivray has written a wonderful story about two people thrown together due to someone else’s decisions. The struggles that Ron and Carrie are forced to endure for the sake of the twins is heartbreaking. Carrie is a woman who has no idea how much love and compassion she has inside her. Ron is trying to do the right thing only to realize that he cannot lose the twins. When both Carrie and Ron realize that they love the twins too much to give them up, they must face the hardest decision in their lives. What is the best thing to do for the twins? Can either of them walk away for the sake of the other? How can they both have what they want?
The Letter is a tremendous story, enjoyable to anyone that loves a sentimental romance. The compassion that Ron and Carrie both have for the twins’ well-being is touching and rewarding to read. The stress and frustrations they share bond Carrie and Ron to each other as well connects the readers to both characters. I was very overwhelmed to witness the love, passion, and tenderness of both characters in the midst of numerous difficult times. Donna McGillivray has done an outstanding job creating a story that readers will long remember after they are finished reading it. The Letter has beautifully earned both 5 Angels and a Recommended Read!
