White Heart, Lakota Spirit
Be still my heart, to be captured by Indians! Can true love be the conquest that will bury the prejudices and fear of being with an Indian?
Grace is a sixteen year-old girl who is captured by Indians after they attack and kill her parents and brother. She is taken to their camp as a hostage. While there, she is befriended by Green Eyes, a woman who is married to the chief. Green Eyes, or Cecila as she was known as before, fell in love with the chief, leaving the whites and coming to live with the Indians. Grace is taken by Lone Eagle as his woman, and later as his wife. Can Grace, who becomes known as Dancing Fawn, put aside all the fear, prejudices and horror associated with being captured and living with the Indians?
Grab it while you can! White Heart, Lakota Spirit is a wonderful historical book that I can honestly say is a keeper. White Heart, Lakota Spirit by Ginger Simpson is a book that everyone - old or young - needs to read. Not only are you drawn into the turmoil that Grace (Fawn) goes through, but this book brings you into all the feelings of hope, desire and turbulence that go along with the acceptance and love of someone outside of your ethnic background. My attention was grabbed as I was whirled from one action-filled and excitement-packed page to another, and I had read all of White Heart, Lakota Spirit before I realized it.
White Heart, Lakota Spirit makes you believe that love really knows no bounds and that with love you can overcome anything if you only believe! What a well-written and impressive short story; this one will involve and engage you from the first page to the last. Not only did I love White Heart, Lakota Spirit, but I am also going to buy anything and everything Ginger Simpson writes. She's won me over totally!
